At KIPP St. Louis you will work with students and school teams to identify and support students who need extra support. You come every day equipped to improve student outcomes, identify and support students in small groups, and create targeted plans for student success! You’ll collaborate with classroom teachers, the student support team, and school administrators to identify and support students to find their pathway to the futures they choose.

Job Description

Position Overview

At KIPP St. Louis, we believe every part of a child’s day should spark joy, curiosity, and growth—even after the final bell! Our Before & After Care Program keeps the learning (and fun!) going with a safe, enriching space where students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We’re looking for an Activity Coordinator who brings energy, creativity, and heart to the table! In this role, you’ll dream up and lead engaging activities in a specialist area of Reading, Math, or Social-Emotional that match student interests and reflect KIPP values—think STEM adventures, arts and crafts, dance breaks, social-emotional moments, and academic boosts. You’ll report to the Site Coordinator and play a key role in making every student feel like they belong. Through culturally responsive programming and inclusive practices, you’ll help eliminate barriers and make after-school time another great part of the day.

 

Qualifications

10 Month; Grant Funded --->Part-time role (Up to 20 hours)

What you will do:

Specialist Planning: 

  • Serve as a Reading, Math, or Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialist, designing and facilitating engaging, high-quality small-group experiences that strengthen students' academic and social-emotional development.

  • Collaborate with the Site Coordinator to develop weekly activity plans aligned to student interests, developmental needs, and learning goals within the assigned specialist area.

  • Prepare instructional materials and activity spaces in advance to ensure experiences are organized, engaging, and executed with excellence.

  • Adapt instruction and activities in real time based on student engagement, interests, and individual needs to maximize participation and learning outcomes.

 

Student Engagement: 

  • Lead engaging, high-energy small-group experiences that foster joy, curiosity, creativity, and a strong sense of belonging for every student.

  • Facilitate interactive, hands-on activities including: movement, arts and crafts, games, STEM challenges, and collaborative learning experiences, that inspire exploration, teamwork, and fun.

  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with students by creating a positive, inclusive environment and proactively reinforcing expectations through consistent, caring, and relationship-centered interactions.

Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee daily program operations to ensure a safe, organized, and high-quality experience, including attendance management, student transitions, and facility readiness.

  • Coordinate seamless daily routines, including arrival and dismissal procedures, student transitions, meal and snack service, and the consistent implementation of all safety protocols.

  • Manage daily meal and snack service in compliance with Missouri CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) guidelines by ensuring accurate meal counts, proper food handling, required documentation, and adherence to all state and federal program requirements. 

  • Monitor student participation and program data to support continuous improvement, measure program effectiveness, and contribute to shared team goals.

  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and joyful environment where every student feels safe, valued, connected, and excited to engage each day.

Family & Community Engagement: 

  • Foster authentic partnerships with families through proactive communication, meaningful engagement opportunities, and responsive support that strengthens students' connection to the program.

  • Lead outreach and engagement efforts that expand program participation by identifying and addressing barriers to access, ensuring all students and families have equitable opportunities to engage in extended learning.

Additional duties within reason may be assigned; such duties must be considered as beneficial and impactful to the mission of the organization.

Physical demands/mental demands/environmental factors:

  • Operate a computer and office equipment on a daily basis including Google Suite

  • Assemble dinner and snacks in the kitchen

  • Do occasional moderate lifting, pushing and pulling

  • Frequently move about inside the office/school to access materials and equipment

  • Occasionally position self to interact with students

  • Maintain emotional control under stress

  • Interpret policy, procedures and data

  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written)

Additional Information

What you bring to the table: 

  • Relevant experience in youth development, education, or program coordination strongly preferred. 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ years of experience in education, youth programming, or community engagement.

  • Proven track record of managing teams, designing youth programs, and driving student success.

  • Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing equity-focused practices.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities.

  • Ability to coach and develop staff in an identity-affirming, student-centered environment.

  • Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and eliminating barriers to student success.
